Direction (Q. 1 - 10) : Read the following passage carefully and answer the questions given below it Certain words are given in bold to help you locate them while answering some of the questions.
If you or your family fall sick in India you have to choose between going to a private doctor or hospital where you may have to spend a lot of money and not know if the tests, referrals and treatment are really necessary; you can go to a public hospital where you will be competing with a hundred other patients for attention; or you can take your grandmother's advice and risk not treating a disease early that later turns out to be serious.
An Internet connection can give you access to information abut your illness in some of the 1,00,000 health websites (like 30% of Internet users in Western countries). You'll find, unfortunately, that most health websites are Americanoriented—  they deal with illnesses that may or may not commonly exist in India and suggest treatment methods that are not always available or sometimes inappropriate forus. There are some Indian health websites but they are mainly aimed at doctors and the few that offer advice to the lay public seem to us to be run by one or two doctors and many more entrepreneurs who have a frankly commercial intent. Most important, however, is that there is no way by which you can assess whether the advice you have been given is accurate. Studies done on net health sites have shown that in many cases the treatment advised has been incorrect and sometimes dangerous. So much so that recently national and international bodies such as the World Health Organisation have been considering kitemarking health websites for quality.
We decided to start a health website which is relevant to you the intelligent Indian patient, which provides information that is accurate, comprehensive and of an international quality. We don't wish to supplant the traditional health providers like the general practitionef or the hospital doctor. Our aim is to help patients by empowering them with knowledge to better understand what their diagnosis means, why certain tests are necessary, how certain drugs or operations might help and what the likely outcome might be.
